I was told to download and install the driver for that product, so I did. (AR81Family Linux Driver) The problem is, im not sure how to install the driver. I really need: AR813X-linux-v1.0.0.8.tar.gz It IS NOT on the website, the only version they have is AR813X-linux-v1.0.0.9.tar.gz That one doesn't work for me.

Linux Driver Download

If you have installed ubuntu in your system and it has a Atheros network controller ,your network card will not be detected.
If you don't know what enternet controller is present run the command
lshw -class network
It should list out all the network controllers present, if you see Atheros/Attansic in the list then do the following to enable your card.


The ubuntu distros by default don't have the drivers for the Atheros/Attansic drivers and hence need to be installed.

(this works for AR8151, might work for all 81 series too) .
NOTE: The link is not working any more after take over of atheros by qualcomm. Will update once I get the correct link.

Once you have downloaded the .gz pacakage, put it into a empty folder and run the following commandsYour network should be recognized now, have fun :-)

Ok guys, I just installed Ubuntu on my Aspire 1 laptop and it wouldn't recognize my ethernet port (Atheros ar8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet). I was told to download and install the driver for that product, so I did. http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx (AR81Family Linux Driver) The problem is, im not sure how to install the driver. I know how to decompress tar.gz files, but beyond that I don't know much. The README file that was included isn't much help because i don't understand it.:( (I attached it, maybe you can understand it better than me.) I am somewhat a newbie to Linux, so please explain thoroughly. Thanks.
